The Authority/Lobo:
Jingle Hell!
(February, 12 of 2004)
Story:
Jenny Quantum, a very powerful little girl who is raised by the
“couple” Apolo and Midnight, of Authority, reads the “The Lobo Paramilitary
Christmas Special” comic book and decides to require the Main Man death for what
he has done for the Father Christmas. At the same time, Lobo is hired by some
bugs that look giant worms to kill the group of anti-heroes. Apparently
nonsense, but that’s the way it is :)
Production credits:
Script: Keith Giffen
Dialogues: Alan Grant
Art: Simon Bisley
Positive /
negative points:
After “Lobo Unbound” mini-series, that at least isn't completely
satisfying the expectations, Keith Giffen gives us the gift of a real fabulous
special issue. The script follows one of more common structures of a
intereditorial crossover (Authority with the purpose of meeting Lobo; Lobo with
the purpose of meeting Authority; meeting between Authority and Lobo with good
kicking, end that maintains the status quo), but Giffen works well these clichés
in a very interesting and creative way.
In a summary, the story is very good, either to Lobo’s fans or to Authority’s.
Simon Bisley drawings are fantastic, as always, and Baron’s colors are very
suitable. Certainly this magazine deserves to figure among Lobo’s best stories
so far. It isn’t perfect only because the solution for the end is very similar
to the already used in the meeting between Lobo and Hitman, but it doesn’t make
this magazine leave the position of being indispensable to any Main Man’s fan.
